Animal Osteopathy (Canine and Equine)
Animal osteopathy is a manual therapy complementary to veterinary care that aims to remove tension and restrictions and encourage healing in the animal’s musculoskeletal system. The result is pain relief, improved movement and performance and injury prevention.
FYB treats your animals body as a whole, rather than only focusing on any one particular veterinary condition, aiming to return its body to balance. The techniques used during treatments will be tailored specifically for each individual animal according to their age & build.
A ‘Veterinary Consent Form’ must be completed and provided prior to any appointment before a consultation is permitted.
Why would my dog need to see a Canine Osteopath?
Canine Osteopathy treats all canine breeds, including household dogs, occupational dogs and professional dogs from puppies onwards. Regular treatment for animals suffering from musculoskeletal imbalances can also help improve their performance whilst maintaining their overall health.
Unlike humans, animals cannot tell us about their pain. Osteopathic treatments are largely based on careful observation and manual examination. For example, a dog will communicate their discomfort or pain by displaying changes in personality, behaviour, or performance such as:
- Lameness when walking.
- Resistance or defensive when touched.
- Difficulty in stretching hind legs when jumping.
- Going off their food.
- Excessive panting.

Do I need my vet to provide permission before my Canine Osteopathy appointment?
Yes. It is illegal for any treatment to be conducted by any other practitioner on an animal without the consent from your attending vet. Before an appointment can be made, please ask your vet to fill out the Veterinary Consent Form via our appointments page and email any relevant medical history they feel will help in the examination and treatment of your dog.
How long will my Animal Osteopathy appointment take?
- For Canine appointments – The initial consultation which includes treatment usually lasts 45 minutes, follow-up appointments are approximately 30 minutes.
- For Equine appointments – The initial consultation which includes treatment usually lasts 60 minutes, follow-up appointments are approximately 45 minutes.
